Crude Oil Benchmarks: The Brent WTI Spread

The historical relationship between NYMEX Light Sweet Crude Futures, familiarly known as WTI and the ICE Brent Futures has changed raising questions regarding whether or not these crude oil benchmarks are still reliable. This report discusses in detail the Crude Oil benchmarks: WTI, Brent and Dated Brent and examines their suitability as a benchmark with respect to liquidity, transparency, delivery mechanism, position limits and margin requirements.

Cushing Patoka NYMEX Interchange

The NYMEX crude oil futures contract is the most widely traded crude oil contract in the world. This report discusses that contract and the existing storage, new construction, pipelines and logistics going into and out of Cushing OK and Patoka IL.

Crude Oil Transloading Facility Report

The last several years have seen a dramatic increase in the amount of crude oil transported by rail. This report covers facilities constructed where crude is loaded from truck to rail as well as facilities that have been constructed where rail cars are unloaded. NY-NJ-CT Petroleum Terminal Tankage Report

Petroleum product storage and terminal facilities are an important part of the logistics and distribution system. Over 400,000 barrels per day of gasoline and jet fuel are imported into the NY-NJ-CT area. Out of over 2000 total tanks, located at more than 60 terminals with close to 100 million barrels of storage, details are provided for over 1500 tanks.

The Tarnished Golden Age of Refining

Information regarding grass roots refinery construction as well as the construction of individual units; specifically catcrackers, cokers and hydrocrackers. The report includes a discussion regarding product supply versus potential refinery production to give a sense of the refinery capacity situation.

Distillate Specification Changes 2010 and Beyond

The Clean Air Act requirement for lower sulfur distillate fuels significantly changed the refining, logistics and distribution system over the last few years. More changes are on the way in 2010 and 2012. This report analyzes potential changes to the supply and demand of the different distillate grades. This is the third report in a series that included the ULSD rollout in 2006 and NRLM in 2007.
